alpha,beta-Unsaturated aldehydes and ketones such as phorone, benzalac
etone, benzalacetophenone, 4-(2-furyl)-3-buten-4-one and beta-ionone,
react with TMS-Cl in the presence of Li in THF to give conjugated beta
-silylated enoxysilanes. Hydrolysis of this compounds in acidic media
produce beta-silyted aldehydes, ketones and epsilon-diketones, a resul
t of reductive addition reaction. Reactions of beta-silylated aldehyde
s or ketones with Wittig reagent give beta-silylated olefins.
