Researchers who study women's leisure in the 1990s are moving into a d
iscourse about the inability and inadequacy of determining that leisur
e is the same for all women or that ''one leisure size fits all.'' The
purpose of this paper is to extend an integrative review undertaken i
n 1990 to ascertain what we know about women's leisure in 1996. An int
egrative review was the strategy for reviewing research that focused o
n inferring generalizations about substantive issues from a set of stu
dies directly bearing on these issues. The analyses resulted in three
themes grounded in the literature of the past six years along with gui
ding hypotheses developed within each theme. The ''megathemes'' includ
ed gender, continua of meanings, and diversity.
