G. Drossos et al., RADIATION CHARACTERISTICS OF A CYLINDRICAL DIELECTRIC RESONATOR ANTENNA OPERATING AT HE(21-DELTA), Microwave and optical technology letters, 13(5), 1996, pp. 248-251
The radiation from a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) ex
cited at the HE(21 delta) mode by a coaxial probe is theoretically for
mulated and experimentally investigated. Assuming magnetic-wall bounda
ry conditions, equations for the electric field components in the far-
field region are derived for the first time. The dependence of the rad
iation pattern and directivity on the dimensions of the cylinder are d
iscussed. The gain of the DRA operating at the HE(21 delta) mode is 30
% greater than that of an ideal monopole, and the bandwidth is about f
our times greater than the bandwidth of a patch antenna. (C) 1996 John
