Abstract
Novel balanced shunt variable attenuators with quasi-lumped branch-lin e couplers are introduced. The inner branches of the two couplers are merged, and parasitic capacitances in the control devices are absorbed into the couplers, saving space. An HMIC example is described. The te chnique is attractive in in MMIC design, where saving space reduces co sts. (C) 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
