I. Delariva et al., ADVERTISEMENT CALLS OF 4 MICROHYLID FROGS FROM BOLIVIA (AMPHIBIA, ANURA), The American midland naturalist, 136(2), 1996, pp. 418-422
Advertisement calls of four anuran species in the family Microhylidae
from Bolivia are described, including information on calling behavior,
A characteristic audiospectrogram and oscillogram are presented for e
ach species. Numerical information about the spectral and temporal fea
tures of the calls is provided. The calls of Chiasmocleis albopunctata
and Elachistocleis bicolor are described for the first time. Calls of
Elachistocleis ovalis and Hamptophryne boliviana are compared with pr
eviously described calls of the same species from other locations. The
call of C. albopunctata has the basic structure present in other memb
ers of the genus, resembling an orthopteran sound. The call of E. bico
lor is higher pitched than that of E. ovalis. The calls of H. bolivian
a from populations in Bolivia and Peru show great similarity.
