Abstract
Extracts of black tea, green tea and coffee inhibited the growth of va rious species of Streptococcus and Micrococcus. Tea and coffee also sh owed bactericidal activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae and Microc occus luteus. Heat treatment of extracts did not affect the inhibitory or bactericidal effects, indicating the unlikely involvement of prote in(s) in bactericidal activity.
