Abstract
Galilei invariance of the Schrodinger equation requires linearization of the operator S = i partial derivative/partial derivative t + 1/2m d el(2) by the introduction of anticommuting matrices as coefficients of the linear form. In an external field this leads directly to the Paul i equation, the non-relativistic limit of Dirac's equation. An overvie w of the complete argument that defines spin as a non-relativistic con cept is presented.
