This study examines the determinants of midlife marital satisfaction i
n 172 families with ''boomerang kids.'' The principal factors being co
nsidered include characteristics of leaving home and returning home th
at may influence parental marital satisfaction. Key findings suggest t
hat the child variables-particularly number of returns home and reason
for initial homeleaving-are important determinants. The results are d
iscussed in terms of professional interventions with the small proport
ion of couples that are negatively affected by coresidence.
