Sodium ferrate (VI), as a primary source of iron, has been investigate
d in the hydrothermal synthesis of the zeolite cancrinite. Crystalline
material with Fe(III) incorporated into lattice sites was isolated fr
om a starting gel containing 0.5 mole fraction Fe2O3/Al2O3. The use of
X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence c
hemical analysis, electron microscopy, thermal analysis, and magnetic
measurements were all used to characterize the final product. An incre
ase in unit cell dimensions was noted for the iron-substituted cancrin
ite when compared with a pure aluminum cancrinite. (C) Elsevier Scienc
