Jm. Mcgrath, PREHEATING CULLET WHILE USING THE CULLET BED AS A FILTER FOR WASTE GASES IN THE EDMESTON HEAT TRANSFER EMISSION CONTROL-SYSTEM/, Glass technology, 37(5), 1996, pp. 146-150
The Irish Glass Bottle Co., along with the British Glass Manufacturers
Confederation and Edmonston GmbH, was awarded a Thermie grant by the
European Commission in 1994 to develop a new cullet preheating process
. The waste gases pass directly through a bed of cullet before dischar
ge to atmosphere thereby adding to the heat recycled to the furnace. I
n addition the gases pass through an ioniser, before the cullet bed, c
ausing the dust particles to be electrically charged. By immersing ele
ctrodes in the cullet bed the glass is polarised and the charged dust
particles are captured on the surface of the cullet. We wish to establ
ish the heat recovery rate, the parameters for good dust capture, incl
uding batch changes, and the design changes to either correct difficul
ties encountered or enhance the efficiency of the system.
