The resistant 'polymer' in the trilaminar sheath of Coelastrum sphaeri
cum is a complex formed by three different types of biopolymers, a hyd
rophobic aliphatic network mainly composed of polymethylenic chains wi
th amido groups, together with smaller amounts of cellulose and protei
ns. The composition of the hydrophobic polymer is close to that of alg
aenan of other trilaminar layer-containing species. Copyright (C) 1996
