The A(2) Pi-X(2) Sigma (1,1) band of ZrN between 5642 and 5879 Angstro
m has been studied using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. ZrN
was produced by reacting vaporized ZrCl4 with microwave discharged N-2
gas. All the N-2 branches expected from a (2) Pi-(2) Sigma transition
have been observed and assigned. Various perturbations in the (2) Pi(
3/2) substate upsilon = 1 level have been found, in which the one at J
= 38.5 is ascribed to a degenerate state. The magnetic hyperfine stru
cture of the (ZrN)-Zr-91 has also been identified. A least-squares fit
up to J = 30.5 yielded molecular constants for both the A(2) Pi and t
he X(2) Sigma states of four isotopic molecules. (C) 1996 Academic Pre
