B. Starczewska et J. Karpinska, APPLICATION OF ERIOCHROME CYANINE-R TO THE EXTRACTIVE-SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF CHLORPROMAZINE, Analytical letters, 29(14), 1996, pp. 2475-2486
Chlorpromazine reacts with Eriochrome Cyanine R forming an ion associa
tion compound, insoluble in water but fairly soluble in buthyl alcohol
. In this work the optimal reaction and extraction conditions were est
ablished. The spectroscopic studies of the formed compound were perfor
med by UV, VIS, IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectrometry. The new extract
ive-spectrophotametric method for chlorpromazine hydrochloride determi
nation is proposed. Using this method it is possible to determine chlo
rpromazine hydrochloride concentration in the range 7.0-70 mu g/ml. Th
is method was verified against the method of Blazek and applied to det
ermination of chlorpromazine hydrochloride in pharmaceuticals.
