J. Diaz et al., A NOTE ON THE STUDY OF VITAFERT (SUGARCANE PLUS POULTRY MANURE) LEVELS IN PREFATTENING PIGS, Cuban journal of agricultural science, 30(3), 1996, pp. 301-303
One hundred sixty eight pigs of 10 kg liveweight at 9 weeks of age wer
e used to test a new product prepared from sugar cane and hen manure (
Vitafert) for cereal substitution in the diet. Animals were distribute
d according to a random block design in 3 treatments for studying the
substitution levels of 0, 10 and 20% (wet basis) for 5 weeks. Results
did not show differences in daily gain, final weight and total convers
ion but there was a significant (P < 0.01) difference in favour of the
levels of Vitafert when conversion of the traditional products was an
alysed. From the economical point of view and due to its simple prepar
ation the use of up to 20% Vitafert in pre-fattening pigs over 10 kg o
f liveweight, is suggested as well as to continue the study with highe
r levels and with other pig categories.
