Abstract
laboratory investigation to determine the effect of a subsurface hardp an on soil erosion was carried out. The presence of a pan led to a sig nificant increase in soil erosion. Runoff and soil loss were higher fr om the panned soil than the unpanned soil. The total runoff from the p anned soil was about 1.3 times greater than that from the unpanned soi l and the total soil loss from the panned soil was approximately doubl e that from the unpanned soil. The sediment concentration in the runof f was also higher in the panned soil than the unpanned soil. (C) 1996 Silsoe Research Institute.
