Abstract
In this study of 20 male and 18 female first-year roommate pairs, thre e versions of the Roommate Compatibility Questionnaire were more predi ctive of roommate conflict than the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator The di screpancy between perception of a roommate and a description of an ide al roommate predicted the most variance on a measure of roommate confl ict. For women, the difference between two roommates on measures of se lf characteristics predicted additional variance in roommate conflict. Roommate-matching strategies based on these measures are discussed.
