Motility disorders of the gastrointestinal and biliary tracts account
for a significant amount of morbidity and health casts, yet they are g
enerally difficult to diagnose and often frustrating to treat. Physiol
ogy research and technologic improvements in tests of motility have re
sulted in continued progress in medical management of these disorders.
This review covers recent advances in our understanding of normal and
pathologic motility of the gallbladder and sphincter of Oddi. We also
summarize current recommendations on management of biliary tract dysm
otility.
