Abstract
Nineteen strains of thermotolerant Gram-positive bacteria were isolate d from three natural hot springs of Orissa. The isolates were identifi ed as Bacillus species. They grew at temperatures up to 75 degrees C a nd over a broad range of pH The isolates had a variety of enzyme activ ities (amylase, protease, beta-lactamase, lipase, glutaminase and DNas e), many of them active even at temperatures of 50-60 degrees C.
