S. Prien et al., DISPOSITION FOR BARK BEETLE INFESTATION O F SPRUCE STANDS WITH NEW-TYPE FOREST DAMAGE SYMPTOMS IN THE THURINGIAN FOREST (COLEOPTERA, SCOLYTIDAE), Entomologia generalis, 21(1-2), 1996, pp. 17-25
Older spruce stands of the Oberhof Forestry District in the Thuringian
Forest where conspicuous symptoms of a ''new-type forest damage'' occ
ur since the beginning of the 80s, have been investigated for their di
sposition to bark beetle attack. Out of 300 sample trees, 49% were inf
ested by the Large spruce bark-beetle, Ips typographus Linnaeus 1758;
36% of these infested ones died. A significant correlation between bar
k beetle infestation and symptoms of the ''new-type forest damage'' co
uld not be evidenced by statistical measures. A tendency towards a gre
ater disposition of these trees to infestation is obvious however.
