This paper investigated the use of veterinary consultants by Idaho dai
ry farmers. These farmers indicated that their own records and budgets
were their most valuable source of information for making production
decisions. However, veterinarians had the second highest rank of the i
nformation sources examined. In addition, there appeared to be informa
tion needs in using new technology, herd nutrition, and mastitis contr
ol. Offering assistance in these areas may provide practitioners with
additional opportunities for income.
