This paper examines the control of processes providing security of inf
ormation in data processing networks with a large number of simultaneo
us users and a complex structure of data-logic connections. The concep
ts of centralizing control functions and applications of specialized s
upport systems for decision making are utilized. The development-of Sy
stems for supporting decision making is based on formalizing processes
for providing security and assumes constant gathering, accumulation,
and processing of data on the status of the data-processing network fo
r optimizing the prevention of the loss of confidential information. T
he approach to formalizing the process af providing security of inform
ation is based on the use of Petri nets and their problem oriented ext
ensions, which make it possible to solve problems of both standard and
operative control of the aggregate means of protecting information. M
odels and algorithms for realizing them are oriented to various classe
s of data processing networks and permit the inclusion of topological
features and the specifics of utilized methods for monitoring of the s
tate of the data processing networks.
