Abstract
This commentary discusses the structure and function of the MoFe-prote in of nitrogenase. The aim is to help the reader appreciate the ways i n which the biomimetic and theoretical chemistry described in the four following commentaries contribute to understanding how protons, dinit rogen, substrate analogues and inhibitors are bound and subsequently r educed at the metal clusters present in nitrogenase.
