Ligation of the brachial and femoral artery in 30 dogs did not cause p
ermanent lameness, no signs of gangrene or edema being visible whatsoe
ver. The complete collateral circulation could not be detected arterio
graphically within the first two hours after the ligation of these blo
od vessels. However, at the same time after the the surgery the pulse
could be felt by palpation of limbs.
