Abstract
Thermolysis (850 degrees C) of a mixture of Mg2Si and MCl(n) (M = Y, G d, Dy, Ho, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Fe, Pr; n = 3, 4, 5) produces me tal silicides M(x)Si(y) as microcrystalline powders. The reactions giv e a useful insight into the mechanisms working in this type of reactio n.
