Abstract
Employing a process technology of native nicotinamide coenzyme - reten tion by charged nanofiltration membranes in continuous reaction system s, the synthesis of mannitol and gluconic acid from fructose and gluco se by the NAD(H)-dependent enzymes mannitol dehydrogenase from Torulas pora delbruckii and glucose dehydrogenase from Bacillus megaterium has been studied. Based on kinetic characterization of the coupled enzyme system, partial optimization of the enzymatic redox process is demons trated and the major factors governing the efficiency of the continuou s reaction system are discussed.
