Abstract
Various fluoroquinolones (norfloxacin, enoxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxac in, and sparfloxacin) induce DnaK and GroEL heat shock proteins in Esc herichia coli. The induction is transient, consistent with the kinetic s of cellular DNA relaxation. The concentrations of fluoroquinolones r equired for the induction are similar to those required for DNA relaxa tion and much higher than those required for cell death.
