N. Lemarer et E. Bruyneel, COMPARISON OF IN-VITRO INVASIVENESS OF HUMAN BREAST-CARCINOMA IN EARLY OR LATE-STAGE WITH THEIR MALIGNANCY IN-VIVO, Anticancer research, 16(5A), 1996, pp. 2767-2772
Different in vitro invasion assays have been established to assess tum
our cell invasiveness. We compared the invasiveness of previously desc
ribed cell lines from human br east cancer that are derived from cance
rs in an early or late stage of malignancy, by three different in vitr
o systems. First, we evaluated the capacity of the cells to go through
a Matrigel barrier in a Boyden chamber and in a second assay their ab
ility to migrate in a thick layer of collagen. These experiments showe
d that early stage cells were more motile than late stage cells. By a
third assay, we tested the ability of cells to invade chick heart frag
ment tissue and found none of the cells to be invasive.
