Abstract
Evaluation of trapped beetle repellency, various trap heights, and a s tring pheromone dispenser were tested on 2 golf courses for capture of Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman, adults. Beetle captures in creased significantly when trapped beetles were removed daily from tra ps, No significant differences in captures were found among traps with 12.1-, 18.9-, or 7.6-liter collection containers, and there was no in teraction between beetle removal and collection container size. Trece traps with funnel rims at a height of 13 cm above ground level capture d significantly more beetles than traps with funnel rims at round leve l or at 90 cm above ground level. Numbers of beetles collected in trap s with a polyvinyl chloride coated string pheromone dispenser were sim ilar to numbers captured in traps using a standard Trece rubber septum pheromone dispenser.
