Abstract
Sorption of radioactive cesium by peat soils is described by an expone ntial function (Freundlich isotherm). Organic matter plays a major rol e in the interaction of radioactive cesium and the soil adsorbing comp lex of these soils. Calcium and iron, which are in the mineral parts o f pears, have a negative influence on Cs-134 sorption. Saturation of p eats by monovalent cations strengthens the absorption of radioactive c esium by peat soils.
