PROGRESSIVE ACTIVATION OF THE LIMBIC SYST EM (KINDLING) - A LEARNING AND BRAIN PLASTICITY MODEL

The Limbic System concept is briefly revised. A series of experiments of our laboratory an experimental models of epilepsy (systemic metrazo l, electroshock, cobalt cortical foci, repeated penicillin brain micro injections, and limbic electrical Kindling), are described, In these experiments a computerized analysis (RFM) of paroxistic post-discharge s and sensory evoked potentials was implemented. The sleep organizatio n changes as well as the inhibitory effect of REM sleep on the paroxys ms are described.
