The method of omicron-phthalate acid esters determination in effluent
gases is described. Phthalates are adsorbed on a bed of Amberlite XAD-
2. Desorption with acetone yields 100% recovery. Sample preparation fo
r chromatographic analysis may involve separation from interfering hyd
rocarbons with the use of solvent elution from silica gel. Limit of de
termination for the individual phthalate is 0.1 mg m(-3) for 301 of ai
r drawn through the adsorbing trap.
