Ar. Pillai et al., SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF TRACE AMOUNTS OF PLATINUM WITH THIOCYANATE AND RHODAMINE 6G, Chemia Analityczna, 41(5), 1996, pp. 787-791
A simple, sensitive spectrophotometric procedure is described for the
determination of platinum with rhodamine 6G in the presence of thiocya
nate. The absorbance is measured at 575 nm and the molar absorptivity
was calculated to be 1.41 x 10(5) l mol(-1)cm(-1). The complex system
obeys Beer's law in the range 0-10 mu g of platinum(IV) present in a f
inal folume of 25 ml. The effect of pH, as well as of thiocyanate and
rhodamine 6G concentration were studied. The method has been applied s
uccessfully to the determination of platinum in synthetic mixtures and
in the standard platinum activated carbon powder (platinum catalyst).
