Abstract
The structure of stigmata and their microtrichia are being compared fo r the millipides Polydesmus denticulatus, P. (Brachydesmus) superus (P olydesmidae), Oxidus gracilis, Selminosoma chapmani, Mestosoma hylaeic um (Paradoxomatidae) and Aphelidesmus sp. (Platyrhacidae). They enable plastron respiration under water. Flood tolerance is experimentally s hown for M. hylaeicum and flood resistance for P. denticulatus and P. (B.) superus.
