LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF GALLIUM AND INDIUM WITH FLUOROMETRIC DETECTION

A method for the determination of gallium and indium, using ion-exchan ge chromatography with fluorimetric detection is reported. Quinolin-8- ol-5-sulfonic acid (HQS) in an aqueous micellar medium of CTAB was use d as post-column derivatizing reagent. Optimization of the separation and detection conditions were studied. Linear calibration graphs were obtained in the range 5-100 mu g l(-1) for both metal ions. The detect ion limits, for 100 mu l of sample injected, are 0.15 and 0.10 ng for Ga and In respectively. The proposed method was applied to the analysi s of atmospheric aerosol samples.
