A case of Listeria monocytogenes ocurring in an ICU patient is reporte
d. L. monocytogenes was isolated in blood cultures after 23 days of ho
spitalization in a 61-year-old patient, initially admitted for decompe
nsed chronic insufficiency due to corticodependent asthma. She had fev
er and chills but no neurologic or digestive disorder. The nosocomial
origin was strongly suspected but could not proved because bacteriolog
ic food control was negative.
