Abstract
A case of congenital varicella in an eight-day old infant is reported. Neonatal varicella can be extremely severe when the onset of the dise ase in the mother occurs between four days before and two days after d elivery. The risks associated with varicella during pregnancy are disc ussed, as well as currently available therapeutic strategies aimed at preventing transmission of the varicella-zoster virus to the fetus and neonate.
