Abstract
Astrocytes, like other mammalian cells, possess several different amin o acid transport systems with overlapping substrate specificity. They are involved in nutrition of the astrocyte itself and the metabolic tr affic between astrocytes and neurons, Recent advances in molecular clo ning techniques led to the identification of several amino acid transp ort proteins, which are in part present in astrocytes as well.
