Cesium levels in blood from patients with Alcoholic dementia (ETH) wer
e compared to those from 5 patients with Alzheimer's disease and those
from a control group, using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrome
try. Serum cesium levels were elevated in the alcoholic dementia subje
cts when compared with the control and the Alzheimer's dementia groups
. This may represent a long term change in saturation of membrane lipi
ds or alteration of a protein involved in cesium distribution within t
he alcohol dementia group, The difference in red cell cesium concentra
tions did not reach a statistically significant level.
