Abstract
The numerical solution of the idealized, but self-consistent, LTE atmo sphere problem posed by the authors has been used to introduce the eff ect of multiple scattering on the temperature gradient, the spectral d istribution of the observed flux and the intensity discontinuities. In the theoretical consideration of the problem, the nature of scatterin g processes is not concretized because, in general, common Thomson sca ttering on free electrons is not necessarily the only nor the most eff ective mechanism among the scattering processes.
