ULTRASONOGRAPHY OF THE FLEXOR TENDONS IN THE HORSE - A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH EMPHASIS ON THE SUPERFICIAL FLEXOR TENDON

A review of the literature on the ultrasonography of the tendons in th e horse is presented with emphasis on the superficial flexor tendon. S ome basic principles are outlined and specific characteristics of ultr asonographic diagnosis, prognosis and healing of tendon injuries - spe cifically of the superficial flexor tendon -are discussed. The data fr om the literature are compared to the authors' own findings. The paper is illustrated with original cases from the clinic.
