Abstract
The standard enthalpies of formation of thirteen erbium alloys with la te transition metals have been determined by direct synthesis calorime try at 1473 +/- 2 K. The following values of Delta H-f(0) (kJ .(mole a tom)())(-1) are reported: ErNi, -(42.1 +/- 1.8); ErNi5, -(29.2 +/- 0.8 ); ErRu2, -(26.2 +/- 1.3); ErRh, -(87.4 +/- 1.7); ErRh2, -(69.8 +/- 2. 0); ErPd, -(91.1 +/- 2.2); Er3Pd4, -(94.6 +/- 1.8); ErPd3 -(90.2 +/- 1 .4); ErIr, -(82.9 +/- 2.1); ErIr2, -(75.9 +/- 2.2); ErPt, -(118.7 +/- 2.3); ErPB2 -(107.8 +/- 2.8); ErPt3, -(93.6 +/- 1.8). The results are compared with predicted values from the Miedema model and with availab le literature data for ErNi, ErNi5, ErPd and ErPt.
