Abstract
Four children and one adult with large myelomeningocele defects underw ent operations for the repair of soft tissue defects. The tissue expan sion technique was used. The silicone tissue expanders were inserted o n one side or both sides of the lesion and inflated weekly by saline i njections. The expanded skin and subcutaneous tissue allowed easy midl ine closure of the defects. The results were very satisfactory.
