Using the Lee-Low-Pines variational method the effective mass oi a pol
aron in a rectangular quantum wire subject to a strong uniform externa
l magnetic field along the wire length is studied. Taking the GaAs qua
ntum wire as an example numerical results are given. The results show
that the effective mass of the polaron is dominated mainly by the smal
ler dimension of the quantum wire cross section and the external magne
tic field has an interesting influence on it.
