Abstract
The theory of the formation of nanometer clusters and periodic structu res of laser-induced point defects that interact with an elastic conti nuum is developed. It is demonstrated that two characteristic scale pa rameters determine the sizes of these structures. A hierarchy of the f ormation of such structures with a growth in laser intensity is analyz ed and compared with the experimental data on laser-induced structure modification of the surface of semiconductors.
