Sv. Kireev et al., A LASER COMPLEX FOR REAL-TIME MONITORING OF I-129 ISOTOPE AND NITROGEN-OXIDES IN REPROCESSING WASTE NUCLEAR-FUEL, Laser physics, 6(5), 1996, pp. 983-988
A laser complex for continuous real-time detection of iodine-129 isoto
pe and nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) is developed. The principle of ope
ration of this complex employs such highly sensitive methods of laser
spectroscopy as fluorescence and absorption techniques. The developed
complex is based on He-Ne (0.63 mu m) and He-Cd (0.44 mu m) lasers. Th
e complex can be used for measuring concentrations of iodine-129 and n
itrogen oxides in the working medium in reprocessing waste nuclear fue
l on radiochemical plants, which makes it possible to influence the te
chnological process and, in particular, to improve its ecological safe
ty. In addition, the developed complex opens up new possibilities for
ecological monitoring of atmospheric air.
