Ap. Lisitzin et Gs. Kharin, GLACIAL MATERIAL IN THE KING TROUGH AREA (THE NORTH-ATLANTIC) - ORIGIN, AGE AND IDENTIFICATION CRITERIA, Okeanologia, 36(4), 1996, pp. 598-605
The rock material taken with the aid of the MIR deep-water submersible
s, as well as that obtained by grab and drag sampling and coring was a
nalyzed to show that, unlike the outcrops of the ocean floor, over the
vast North Atlantic area this material was represented by the contine
ntal complex rocks. This rock material is proved to be related to the
iceberg scattering of the Quaternary glaciations. Independent data on
the distribution and composition of sandy-alleurite grains in sediment
cores also confirm the relation with the last glaciation. New cirteri
a for the identification of iceberg material in pelagic sediments are
presented based on the analysis of all the data.
