The association of gastric adenocarcinoma of intestinal type with gast
ric lymphoma is well established and the sequence of events leading to
this outcome has been studied extensively in the past year, Significa
nt developments include recognition of differing host response to Heli
cobacter pylori, cc-factors and the strain of the bacteria in the mali
gnant process. The successful treatment of low grade B cell lymphomas
with antimicrobial therapy is further evidence that this tumour is a r
esult of H. pylori infection, although caution must be exercised in se
lecting suitable cases for treatment.
