Abstract
The alkaloid pattern of Templetonia incana has been investigated to pr ovide data for comparison with other species of the genus Templetonia. The alpha-pyridone alkaloids cytisine, N-methylcytisine, anagyrine an d some other quinolizidine alkaloids were found as major constituents in leaves, twigs, flowers and seeds of this plant. Other compounds tha t were identified include the bicyclic quinolizidine alkaloids lupinin e and epilupinine and two hydroxysparteines. The absence of the ormosa nine-type alkaloids which are typical constituents for other species o f Templetonia, supports the idea that this species should be excluded from the genus Templetonia. The absence of tetrahydrocytisine derivati ves in T. incana separates this species from T. biloba. Copyright (C) 1996 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd
