O. Pinto et al., CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING FLASH CHARACTERISTICS IN SOUTHEASTERN BRAZIL FOR THE 1992-1993 SUMMER SEASON, JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH-ATMOSPHERES, 101(D23), 1996, pp. 29627-29635
A lightning positioning and tracking system (LPATS) has been used for
the first time to obtain the cloud-to-ground flash characteristics in
southeastern Brazil during the 1992-1993 summer season. About 300,000
flashes to ground were recorded. The lightning data are presented in t
erms of polarity, multiplicity, first-stroke peak current, stroke of m
aximum peak current, and local time occurrence. The preliminary result
s are compared with lightning data obtained by several authors in othe
r parts of the world.
