As more students with various visible and invisible disabilities enter
higher education, the need increases for faculty development and educ
ational advocacy to address the unique challenger these students prese
nt. This article focuses on maintaining a balance between educational
integrity in social work programs and the needs and rights of students
with disabilities. It encourages a proactive approach to meeting the
needs of all students. Among the topics explored are defining essentia
l standards, reasonable accommodation, testing, accommodating learning
and hearing disabilities, and incorporating disability issues into co
urses.
